NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: September 11

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 11, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches’ Polls for September 11 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played September 3-9. 

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released September 18.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Chiara Bosetti, Polk State
So. – OH | Albizzate, Italy 

  • Averaged 4.7 kills and 2.9 digs in 13 sets over four matches
  • Helped Polk State to wins in all four matches at the Lee College Invitational
  • Posted a pair of 20+ nights in the kill column and had two double-doubles (kills/digs)
  • 20 kills and 12 digs vs. Lee; 23 kills and 15 digs vs. Panola

Other nominees: Veronica Bond Frias, Central Florida; Taylor Garcia, Daytona State; Raytchelle Miranda, Broward; Ina Gosen, Hillsborough

Defensive Player of the Week: Nicole Rodriguez, Daytona State
Fr. – L | Kissimmee, Fla. 

  • Averaged 6.2 digs in 22 sets over six matches
  • Leads Region 8 in total digs
  • Recorded double-digit digs in each match, including three entries into the 25 Dig Club, capped by a 38-dig effort vs. Hillsborough

Setter of the Week: Nayeli Vilchez, Polk State
Fr. – S | Lima, Peru 

  • Averaged 6.5 assists in 13 sets over four matches
  • Led Polk State to four wins in as many matches at the Lee College Invitational
  • Recorded double-digit assists in each match and had a double-double (35 assists, 11 digs) in win over Panola

Player of the Week: Camden Bitter, Pasco-Hernando State
So. – OH | Ocala, Fla. 

  • Averaged 3.1 kills and 4.0 digs in 21 sets over five matches
  • Led Pasco-Hernando State to wins in four of five matches
  • Recorded four double-doubles (kills-digs); had 18 kills and 28 digs in first match of the week vs. Hillsborough; 17 kills and 11 digs vs. Indian River State

Defensive Player of the Week: Morgan Church, Pasco-Hernando State
So. – L | St. Cloud, Fla. 

  • Averaged 5.5 digs in 21 sets over five matches
  • Recorded at least 15 digs in each match, including three entries into the 25-Dig Club
  • Posted 28 digs in five-set victory vs. Indian River State

  • Averaged 8.9 assists in 17 sets over five matches
  • Currently second overall in Region 8 (1st among DII schools) in total assists
  • Led the Vikings to 3-2 record
  • Recorded at least 22 assists in each match – had season-high of 45 vs. Kansas City Kansas and recorded a double-double (30 assists, 11 digs) vs. Santa Fe
