NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: September 5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 5, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for September 5 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played through September 2. 

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released September 11.

Player of the Week: Mariane Cassiano, Polk State
Fr. – OH | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 

  • Averaged 5.2 kills and 3.1 digs in 31 sets over eight matches
  • Helped Eagles to a split of eight matches
  • Recorded double-digit kills in all eight matches and posted a double-double (kills/digs) in six of the eight

Defensive Player of the Week: Sydney Jaco, State College of Florida
Fr. – DS | Bradenton, Fla. 

  • Averaged 6.6 digs in 37 sets over 11 matches
  • Leads Region 8 and is third nationally in digs per set
  • Recorded double-digit digs in each of the team's 11 matches and closed with five straight entries into the 25 Dig Club, including 39 vs. Gadsden State

Setter of the Week: Tiziana Baumrukova, Miami Dade

  • Averaged 10.9 assists in 28 sets over eight matches
  • Led the two-time defending national champion Sharks to eight wins in as many matches to start the season
  • Leads Region 8 (DI) and is fifth nationally in assists per set
  • Recorded at least 32 assists in each of the Sharks' eight matches
