NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 30

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 30, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its final NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for the 2018 season and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for matches played October 22-28. 

The final individual weekly awards of the season will be released November 6 following the Region 8 Division I and Division II Tournaments.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Valeria Alegrias, Miami Dade
So. – OH | Cali, Colombia 

  • Averaged 3.8 kills, 2.3 digs and 3.9 points and recorded a .407 hitting percentage over eight sets in three matches
  • Helped the Sharks close out a perfect regular season with three match victories, including a straight-set win vs. No. 17 Santa Fe in the regular season finale

Other nominees: Rafaela Nogueria, Broward; Carolin Santa, Central Florida

Defensive Player of the Week: Samaret Caraballo, Miami Dade
So. – OH | Dominican Republic 

  • Averaged 8.5 digs in 11 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Recorded three 25-Dig Club entries, including 37 vs. Daytona State and 31 vs. nationally-ranked Santa Fe

Other nominees: Yomaries Villegas, Central Florida

Setter of the Week: Tiziana Baumrukova, Miami Dade
So. – S | Prague, Czech Repubich 

  • Averaged 10.7 assists in 10 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Leads Region 8 and is second nationally in assists per set

Player of the Week: Hanna Foecker, St. Johns River State
So. – OH | Sudlohn, NRW 

  • Averaged 3.7 kills, 0.7 service aces, 3.8 digs, 0.5 total blocks and 4.6 points in six sets over two matches during the voting period
  • Recorded double-doubles (kills/digs) in both matches – 11 kills and 10 digs vs. Eastern Florida State and 11 digs and 13 digs vs. Gulf Coast State

Defensive Player of the Week: Amanda Berecz, Lake-Sumter State
So. – DS | Silver Springs, Fla.
