NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 2, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for October 2 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for matches played September 24-30.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 9.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Mariane Cassiano, Polk State
Fr. – OH | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 

  • Averaged 3.3 kills, 3.1 digs and 3.6 points in eight sets over two matches during the voting period
  • Posted a .408 hitting percentage
  • Had 17 kills and 21 digs in a five-set win over Central Florida

Other nominees: Andressa Parise, St. Petersburg; Raytchelle Miranda, Broward; Amanda Leboida, Central Florida

Defensive Player of the Week: Jennevy Santos, Palm Beach State
So. – L | Kissimmee, Fla. 

  • In her only match of the week, she recorded 30 digs (6.0 dps) in a five-set victory over Broward

Other nominees: Yomaries Villegas, Central Florida; Mariane Cassiano, Polk State

Setter of the Week: Maria Idjilov, Central Florida
Fr. – S | Chinsinau, Moldova 

  • Averaged 6.9 assists in 20 sets over five matches during the voting period
  • Currently ranks second in Region 8 in total assists and is sixth in assists/set
  • Also averaged 2.4 digs per set
  • Hit the 30-assist mark in three of the team's five matches
  • Had 35 assists and 19 digs in five-set match against nationally-ranked Polk State

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division II Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Camden Bitter, Pasco-Hernando State
So. – OH | Ocala, Fla. 

  • Averaged 4.9 kills and 4.4 digs in eight sets across two matches during the voting period
  • Also posted a .327 hitting percentage
  • Recorded back-to-back double-doubles – 22 kills and 21 digs vs. Lake-Sumter State; 17 kills and 14 kills vs. Florida Gateway

Other nominees: Talyn Allard, Lake-Sumter State; Hanna Foecker, St. Johns River State

Defensive Player of the Week: Morgan Church, Pasco-Hernando State
So. – L | St. Cloud, Fla. 

  • Averaged 6.4 digs in eights sets over two matches during the voting period
  • In a five-set win vs. Lake-Sumter State, she recorded 43 digs, the most from a Region 8 player (DI or DII) this year

Setter of the Week: Jordyn Pruski, St. Johns River State
Fr. – S | San Antonio, Texas 

  • Averaged 8.5 assists in 11 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Recorded 25+ assists in all three matches, including 32 vs. South Florida State and 37 vs. Gulf Coast State
  • Had 11 and 14 digs against South Florida State and Gulf Coast to complete double-doubles
