NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: September 19

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 19, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Coaches’ Poll for September 19 and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for matches played September 11-17. 

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released September 26.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Sierra Mooney, Lake-Sumter State
Sophomore – MB
Middleburg, Fla. 

  • Led Lake-Sumter State to a split of its two matches, including its first-ever win over Santa Fe
  • Averaged 1.4 kills, 0.6 blocks and 1.7 points over eight total sets in two matches
  • Recorded six kills and four total blocks in the Lakehawks’ five-set win over Santa Fe

Taysha Gonzalez, Lake-Sumter State
Freshman – DS
San Sebastian, P.R. 

  • Led Lake-Sumter State to a split of its two matches, including its first-ever win over Santa Fe
  • Averaged 4.3 digs in eight sets over two matches
  • Recorded a team-high 21 digs in Lake-Sumter State’s five-set win over Santa Fe

Jordan Shoemaker, Indian River State
Freshman - Setter

  • Averaged 8.3 assists in seven sets over two matches; also averaged 0.9 kills, 1.1 digs and 0.3 blocks
  • Recorded 33 assists over four sets vs. Florida State College and 25 more in three sets vs. Hillsborough
