NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 24

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 24, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Coaches’ Poll for October 24 and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for matches played October 16-22. 

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 31.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Sun Wenting, Miami Dade
Sophomore – OH
Heilongjiang, China 

  • Averaged 4.5 kills and 4.2 digs per set (11 total) over four matches
  • Helped the Sharks remain undefeated on the season with a perfect 4-0 week to wrap up the Southern Conference Championship
  • Recorded a pair of double-doubles – 16 kills and 18 digs vs. Indian River State and 15 kills and 15 digs in a straight set win vs. nationally-ranked Polk State
  • Had a third double-digit kills match with 13 vs. Broward

Ocala, Fla. 

  • Averaged 5.5 digs per set (11 total) over three total matches
  • Helped the Bobcats to a 3-0 record last week, including wins over Lake-Sumter State and State College of Florida
  • After a 22-dig effort vs. Lake-Sumter State, she stamped her name in the 25-Dig Club with a total of 29 in a five-set win over State College of Florida

  • Averaged 11.3 assists per set (eight total) over two matches
  • Helped St. Petersburg wrap up the Suncoast Conference Championship with wins over State College of Florida and Hillsborough
  • Totaled 40 assists in a straight set win over State College of Florida then recorded 50 more in a five-set win over Hillsborough
