NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 25

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 25, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Coaches’ Poll for October 25 and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for matches played October 17-23.

The final regular season poll and individual weekly awards will be released November 1.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Kathya Garcia, Polk State
Freshman – OH
Chihuahua, Mexico 

  • Averaged 5.1 kills, 0.3 assists, 0.8 service aces, 3.1 digs and 0.3 blocks in two matches during the voting period
  • Led Polk State to a 2-0 record last week
  • Eagles knocked off St. Petersburg (3-1) and Hillsborough (3-1) in Suncoast Conference play
  • Recorded a double-double (28 kills, 17 digs) vs. St. Petersburg then posted 13 kills and eight digs vs. Hillsborough

  • Averaged 7.7 digs in two matches during the voting period
  • Led Miami Dade to wins in each of its matches during the week
  • Stamped her name in the 25-dig club when she recorded 26 digs in 3-0 win over Broward; followed that up with 20 digs in 3-2 win over Florida State College

  • Averaged 10.4 assists in two matches during the voting period
  • Helped Polk State to a perfect 2-0 record last week
  • Credited with 44 assists vs. St. Petersburg and 39 more vs. Hillsborough
