NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 18

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 18, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Coaches’ Poll for October 18 and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for matches played October 10-16.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 25.

  • Led Polk State to an overall 4-0 record for the week and 3-0 in matches she appeared in
  • Averaged 4.8 kills, 0.2 assists, 0.1 services aces, 4.7 digs, 0.4 blocks and 5.1 points over 10 sets and four matches during the voting period
  • Recorded double-doubles in all three outings: 12 kills, 21 digs vs. Hillsborough; 15 kills, 14 digs vs. South Florida State; 21 kills, 12 digs vs. State College of Florida

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Gabrielle Fresh, Palm Beach State
Freshman – DS/L
Dunedin, Fla. 

  • Led Palm Beach State to a five-set win over Broward in its only match of the week
  • Credited with a career-high 45 digs (9.0 digs/set) in the win over Broward

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week
Ivona Vojvodic, Central Florida
Freshman
Bar, Montenegro 

  • Helped the top-ranked Patriots to a perfect 4-0 week
  • Averaged 10.8 assists over four matches and 13 total sets
  • Also averaged 0.5 kills, 0.6 service aces and 3.1 digs per set
  • Posted double-doubles in her first and last matches of the week – 36 assists and 10 digs vs. Lake-Sumter State and 23 assists and 13 digs vs. Eastern Florida State; also had a career-high 52 assists vs. Florida State College
