NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 4, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Coaches' Poll for October 4 and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for matches played September 26-October 2.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 11.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Nina Petranovic, St. Petersburg
Sophomore – OH
Polzela, Slovenia 

  • Led St. Petersburg to a perfect 3-0 week including wings over No. 1 Hillsborough and No. 2 Polk state
  • Averaged 3.4 kills, 1.1 assists, 0.4 service aces, 1.2 digs, 0.8 blocks and 4.2 points in 13 sets over three matches
  • Posted a .459 hitting percentage for the week
  • Tallied 18 kills (3.6/set) and a .486 hitting percentage in the 3-2 win over Hillsborough
  • Recorded two double-doubled – 15 kills and 11 digs – in the 3-1 win against Polk State and 11 kills and 14 assists vs. Indian River State

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week
Brooke Westphal, South Florida State
Sophomore – DS
Michigan City, Ind. 

  • Averaged 10.2 digs over four matches and 16 total sets
  • Helped South Florida State split its four matches during the voting period
  • Credited with at least 33 digs in each match, including a season-high 51 at Florida College
  • Posted 33 digs in a straight-set at Pasco-Hernando State
  • 36 digs in a narrow 3-2 loss vs. State College of Florida and 43 digs in a four-set loss to Palm Beach State

  • Averaged 15.5 assists over three matches and eight sets
  • Averaged 15.5 assists per set as well as 1.8 kills and 4.9 digs
  • Recorded back-to-back double-doubles against Polk State (44 assists, 19 digs) and South Florida State (57 assists, 18 digs), both 3-2 wins
  • Led State College of Florida to two wins in three matches during the voting period, including a 3-2 win over Polk State
