Miami Dade's Massiel Matos named NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 9, 2016) - Miami Dade College's Massiel Matos was named NJCAA Division I Volleyball Player of the Week on Wednesday.

She was named NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Matos, a freshman from Higuey, D.R., led Miami Dade to the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Championship last weekend with wins over St. Petersburg College, NJCAA No. 11 Daytona State College and Santa Fe College. She averaged 5.6 kills and 4.2 digs over 12 sets and three matches to earn tournament MVP honors.

Matos recorded three straight double-doubles – 20 kills and 19 digs vs. St. Petersburg, 26 kills and 19 digs vs. Daytona State, and 21 kills and 12 digs vs. Santa Fe.

She is the fifth NJCAA Player of the Week recipient from Region 8, joining Hillsborough Community College's Abigail O'Ferrell, Palm Beach State College's Haley Seyfarth, St. Petersburg College's Nina Petranovic and Polk State College's Cristina Castillo.
