Nine from Region 8 earn volleyball All-America honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 7, 2016) - As expected, Region 8 dominated the National Junior College Athletic Association's All-America teams, released on Monday. 

In all, nine volleyball standouts from Florirda earned first-team, second-team or honorable mention all-America honors. 

Leading the way was a quartet of first-team All-Americans, headlined by freshman outside hitter Massiel Matos from national champion Miami Dade College.

Joining Matos on the first-team were College of Central Florida's Rafaela Fonseca (So./OH), Palm Beach State College's Haley Seyfarth (So./S) and St. Petersburg College's Nina Petranovic (So./RS). 

Three more players earned second-team All-America honors: Central Florida's Nathaly Alvarez (So./S), Polk State College's Kathya Garcia (Fr./OH) and Pensacola State College's Y'Tae Cobb (Fr./MB). 

Polk State joined Central Florida with a second honoree - Yue Wu was named Honorable Mention All-America. Santa Fe College's Nadine Williams was also an honorable mention recipient, becoming the Saints' first volleyball All-American.
