FCSAA Volleyball Notebook: September 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 8, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Volleyball Coaches' Poll and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for September 8.

The next poll will be released September 15.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Jussara Silva, Central Florida
Freshman – Middle Hitter
Minas Gerais, Brazil 

  • Lead Central Florida to a 3-0 record last week and wins over No. 2 Palm Beach State, No. 4 Indian River State and No. 6 Polk State
  • Averaged 3.2 kills, 0.7 digs, 0.2 assists, 0.1 service aces, 0.8 blocks and 3.8 points per set (12 total sets) while posting a 0.581 hitting percentage
  • Recorded double-digit kills and posted a hitting percentage of .500 or better in each match, including 14 kills against both Polk State (September 2) and Palm Beach State (September 4)
  • Ranks fifth nationally in hitting percentage (.431)

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Cherlie Adorno DeJesus, Hillsborough
Sophomore – Libero
Toa Boja, Puerto Rico 

  • Helped lead Hillsborough to a 4-0 record last week, including a win over nationally-ranked Odessa
  • Averaged 7.1 digs over a total of 15 sets played
  • Recorded season-high 36 digs in five-set win at previously-undefeated Pensacola State (September 3) and finished the week with 30 in a four-set triumph over Florida State College
  • Leads Region 8 in total digs (196), is second in digs/set (5.8) and is inside the top 15 nationally in both categories
  • Last week, recorded two entries into the 25-Dig Club (28 vs. Daytona State, 28 vs. St. Petersburg)

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week
Nathaly Alvarez, Central Florida
Freshman
Arecibo, Puerto Rico 

  • Helped Central Florida to a 3-0 record last week and wins over No. 2 Palm Beach State, No. 4 Indian River State and No. 6 Polk State
  • Averaged 11.9 assists over three matches and 12 total sets. Also averaged 1.8 digs and 1.1 kills per set
  • Recorded season-high 49 assists in 3-1 win over Polk State (September 2) and followed that with 46 and 48 assists in her other two matches
  • Leads Region 8 in total assists (277) and assists/set (11.1) and is fourth nationally in assists/set
