FCSAA Volleyball Notebook: October 27

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 27, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Volleyball Coaches' Poll and Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week selections for October 27.

The final regular season poll will be released November 3.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Player of the Week
Dominique Mason, Hillsborough
Sophomore – Outside Hitter
Chicago, Ill. 

  • Helped Hillsborough to a 4-0 week, a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents and the Suncoast Conference Championship
  • Averaged 3.4 kills, 1.7 digs, 0.1 service aces and 3.7 points per set (13 total sets) while tallying a .265 hitting percentage
  • Three consecutive double-digit matches in kills – beginning with 14 (and three digs) vs. Central Florida (October 19). Added 12 kills and six digs in a 3-0 win over Polk State (October 22) and 13 kills and six digs vs. South Florida State one day later to clinch the SuCon Championship
  • Currently fourth in Region 8 in kills (362) and 11th in kills/set (3.12)

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

  • Helped Pasco-Hernando State to wins over a pair of Region 8 (DI) opponents as well as return trip to the Region X Tournament
  • Averaged 4.4 digs over a total of 8 sets played
  • Tallied 23 digs in a 3-2 win over South Florida State (October 20) then recorded 12 digs in the Quistas' straight set victory over State College of Florida (October 24)
  • Currently third in Region 8 in digs (486) and is second in digs/set (5.9)

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week
Nathaly Alvarez, Central Florida
Freshman

  • Helped Central Florida to its fifth consecutive Mid-Florida Conference Championship with wins over St. Johns River State and Santa Fe; won two of three matches overall
  • Averaged 7.0 assists over three matches and 14 total sets. Also averaged 2.1 digs, 0.8 kills, 0.1 blocks and 0.1 service aces while tallying a .500 hitting percentage
  • Recorded a double-double (35 assists, 13 digs) in a 3-2 win over St. Johns River State (October 20) then came back with 34 assists and nine digs two days later in a 3-1 win at Santa Fe to claim the MFC Championship
  • Leads Region 8 and ranks third nationally in assists (1220) and is third in Region 8 in assists/set (9.7)

·         Averaged 4.1 kills, 4.9 digs, 0.1 assists, 0.5 service aces, 0.2 blocks and 4.8 points per set (11 total sets) while tallying a .336 hitting percentage

·         Recorded double-doubles vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville (13 kills, 14 digs) and Daytona State (16 kills, 31 digs)

·         Averaged 6.2 digs over a total of 9 sets played

·         Delivered a pair of 25-Dig Club efforts – 29 vs. State College of Florida (W, 3-1) and 27 vs. Polk State (L, 3-2)

·         Currently leads Region 8 and is 11th nationally in total digs (423) and is fourth in Region 8 and 10th  nationally in digs per set (5.49)

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week

·         Helped lead Indian River State to four wins in four matches, as the Pioneers ran their winning streak to 13

·         Averaged 11.5 assists over four matches and 13 total sets. Also averaged 3.0 digs, 0.4 kills, 0.2 service aces and 0.2 blocks while tallying a .571 hitting percentage

·         Her top efforts came in the first (39 assists vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville) and last (48 assists vs. Daytona State) matches of the week. She also had 16 digs in the latter to finish with her second double-double of the week – she had 29 assists and 11 digs vs. Webber JV

·         Currently inside the Region 8 Top Ten in total assists and is top 15 in assists per set
