Daytona State's Alica Kandler named NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 21, 2015) - Daytona State College's Alica Kandler has been named the NJCAA's Division I Volleyball Player of the Week.

Kandler was named the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Player of the Week on Tuesday.

A sophomore outside hitter from Munster, Germandy, Kandler averaged 4.6 kills, 3.6 digs, 0.1 assists, 0.2 service aces and 5.0 points per set (nine total sets) while tallying a .316 hitting percentage. 

Kandler recorded double-doubles in both matches during the voting period: 20 kills, 16 digs vs. St. Johns River State; 21 kills, 16 digs vs. Santa Fe College. More importantly, she led Daytona State to wins against both opponents as the Falcons remained in the hunt for the Mid-Florida Conference Championship. 

Kandler is the fourth Region 8 of the week recipient in 2015 - Pasco-Hernando State College's Teddi Wright was named Division II Player of the Week on September 16 while Polk State College's Yue Wu was named Division I Player of the Week on September 23. Last week, Brianna Stowell of Hillsborough Community College was the DI Player of the Week.
