Hillsborough brings home third-place finish from NJCAA Volleyball Tournament

CASPER, Wyo. (November 21, 2015) - Hillsborough Community College brought home an impressive third-place finish from the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

The Hawks claimed the third-place trophy with a four-set victory over Northwest (Wyo.) College on Saturday. 

One day earlier, Hillsborough's national championship aspirations ended with a straight set loss to eventual national champion College of Southern Idaho. Prior to the semifinal loss, the No. 5 seed Hawks defeated 12th-seed Wallace (Ala.) State Community College-Hanceville and No. 4 Iowa Western Community College.

After winning its opening match against San Jacinto (Texas) College-Central, sixth-seed Polk State College fell into the consolation bracket with a second round loss to Northwest. The Eagles then defeated Missouri State University-West Plains before falling to Iowa Western Community College in the tournament's fifth-place match.

Seeded eighth, the College of Central Florida lost its opening round match to Blinn (Texas) College. The Patriots responded with a victory over No. 16 Frank Phillips (Texas) College but was eliminated one match later by Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

Three players from Region 8 were named to the all-tournament team: Hillsborough's Cherie Adorno Dejesus and Erika Zembyla and Polk State's Yue Wu.

In the Division II Volleyball Championship in Phoenix, Ariz., Pasco-Hernando State College was eliminated after three matches. 

The No. 11 seed Quistas fell to No. 6 Lincoln Land (Ill.) College in the opening round. In consolation play, Pasco-Hernando State defeated No. 14 Muskegon (Mich.) Community College before seeing its season end with a loss to No. 10 Northeast Oklahoma A&M.
