Phoenix bound! Pasco-Hernando State wins Region X/Division P Championship

WILMINGTON, N.C. (November 8, 2014) – The Pasco-Hernando State College Lady Conquistadors became Region X/District P champions after defeating Catawba Valley (N.C.) Community College in four sets on Saturday. The Conquistadors, as regional champions, will continue their race for a national championship at the NJCAA Division II National Volleyball Championship Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., November 20-22.

The Lady Conquistadors, having defeated Catawba Valley Community College in two intense matches during regular season game play, were prepared for a demanding and emotional match. The Conquistadors struck quickly and accurately in game one, defeating the Red Hawks 25-10. Picking up momentum of their own, Catawba Valley went on a serving run in game two and ultimately defeated the Conquistadors by four points, 21-25. Game three proved to be a tight match, as the teams went point for point, but ended in the Conquistador’s favor with a final score of 26-24. Continuing with this pace, the Conquistadors played together as a team and battled to win the fourth game, finishing at 25-17. 

Sophomores Logan Miller, opposite hitter, and Toni Imbimbo, libero, shined for the Conquistadors, with Miller recording a team-high of 15 kills and Imbimbo notching 31 digs. Freshman setter Teddi Wright also showcased an impressive performance, tallying 50 of the team’s 52 total assists. 

The Conquistadors finished the night with 95 digs and hit a .223 as a team. 

Receiving all tournament team accolades were sophomore outside hitter Jordan Bickett and freshman setter Teddi Wright. Additionally, sophomore opposite hitter, Logan Miller, was honored as the tournament’s most valuable player. 

On the road to the championship match, the Lady Conquistadors defeated Surry Community College in three straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-10) and Wake Tech Community College in three straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-16). 

The team has now advanced to 38-5 for the season and will travel to Phoenix, Ariz. on Nov. 20-22 to compete for the 2014 NJCAA Division II National Volleyball Championship.
