OCALA- After a record-breaking freshman season, College of Central Florida volleyball standout Julymar Otero is headed to the four-year level.

Otero, who became the second CF player in school history to earn FCSAA State Player of the Year honors, recently signed with Towson University, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.

On her way to joining Vanessa Benke as the only CF players to ever earn state player of the year honors, Otero racked up quite a few impressive feats.

She set the single game school record for kills in a season with 537, four more than Benke's mark set in 2011.

Otero also set the single-match school record for kills in back-to-back games with 27 and 32 respectively in road wins over Santa Fe College and Daytona State.

The previous school record was 25, held by Benke and Raveen Golston.

Otero also was named First Team All-Mid Florida Conference and was named MFC Player of the Year, which marked the fourth time in as many seasons that CF had the conference's top player. Benke (2011-2012) and Brittney Brown (2013) previously won the MFC's top honor for the Patriots.

Otero also was named state player of the week on three occasions. This enabled her to become the first Patriot to ever win it on multiple occasions and made her the first CF freshman to win player of the week since Benke in 2011.

She also earned All-FCSAA State Tournament honors and helped the Patriots knock off rival Santa Fe in a key elimination match, before falling to Polk State.

During the state tournament, Otero totaled 64 kills in four matches.

In leading the way for the Patriots, Otero led the nation in kills per set at 4.71. The next highest player to Otero stands at 4.41 per set. This is the first time a CF player has ever led the nation in the sport of volleyball in a statistical category.

Otero was at her best when she faced off against the best competition.

Against nationally-ranked opponents, she has been even better with a 5.03 kill per set average, coupled with a .383 percentage.
