Santa Fe Saints Hand FSC-J Straight Set Loss

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (October 14, 2014) - The FCSAA #4/NJCAA #16 Santa Fe Saints used a balanced team effort to hand FCSAA #7 Florida State College-Jacksonville (13-14, 5-2 MFC) a straight set defeat on Tuesday evening in Jacksonville, sweeping the Bluewave 25-20, 25-9, 25-13.  Coach Nick Cheronis was impressed with his team's effort in a big road Mid-Florida Conference match.

"This was our best match of the season," said Cheronis.  "Literally every single player played well and contributed to this win."

After a tight first set that saw SF (23-4, 5-2 MFC) win 25-20, the Saints turned up the heat and ran away with the second set 25-9, and continued their stellar play in set three, winning 25-13.  The victory is the second for SF over the Bluewave this season, giving them the season sweep.

Santa Fe hit .356 for the match and five players had seven or more kills, led by nine from Ruth Harrington and Kaylin Powell. Jane Early and Savannah Young had eight each, and Julie Fuchs had seven.

Farah Rajaee again led the Saints in assists, finishing with 37.  Ann-Lorrayne Bzoch had a team high 21 digs and Harrington rounded out her double double with 12 digs.  Young nearly missed a double double, finishing with nine digs.

The Saints will continue MFC play on Thursday, October 16 against Daytona State College in Gainesville at 7:00 PM.  The Falcons defeated Santa Fe earlier in the season in Daytona.  For fans that cannot attend, the match will be available on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints

"This was a great win, but now we have our work cut out for us again against Daytona State," said Cheronis.  "We could really use the support from our fans, and hope to see the stands packed on Thursday."
