ASA Miami Tennis Finishes Second at Women's National Tournament

TUCSON, AZ. - Tyler Junior College and ASA College (New York and/or Miami) have dominated the women's tennis landscape in the NJCAA for the last eight years. 2009 was the last time someone not named ASA or Tyler came away with the women's trophy. This year, Tyler got the best of the Silver Storm by two small but deciding points.

The day started with one point separating ASA and Tyler. Each team advanced six flights into the championship round, making the three head-to-head matchups crucial. The Silver Storm went 1-2 in the Finals against the Apaches, with the lone win coming from Ghita Nassik who won the flight six singles championship over Elena Tendero. In the other two matches ASA came up short. Lisa Khamassi was the flight five singles runner up and Emily Da Silva Chang lost a hard fought three set match at flight two singles.

Dugleisy Linarez, at flight three singles was the only other singles champion for ASA. Lisa Khamassi and Sarah Wardenburg were the lone doubles champion at flight three for the Silver Storm.
