Eastern Florida tops Broward in OT to win Region 8 women's soccer title

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team scored in the fourth minute of overtime to win the Region 8 Conference Tournament title Sunday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

Freshman Ali Tosches started the overtime period and took one dribble and shot from outside the box that ripped into the back corner of the net, giving the Titans a 2-1 win over Broward College for a spot in the Southeast District Tournament next weekend in North Carolina.

"I just saw the open opportunity and hit it, it really felt unreal until everyone came running toward me. We are moving on," said Tosches.

Broward College opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Titans goalkeeper Kiera Gibson deflected a shot but Seahawk Zeljana Maksimovic hit the rebound into the net.

But the Seahawks would not have the lead long as Morgan Miller tied the game a minute later on a shot that rebounded off the Broward keeper and she buried it.

The win finished off a perfect 9-0 at home for head coach Jeff Carr who coached in his final home game on Sunday. The Titans are 12-2-1 and No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.

"They battled tonight, we dominated tonight but we have to put it in the back of the net. They did a great job against us, frustrated us at times," Carr said. "We got it done but it doesn't get any easier. We have to win six more times for a national championship."

Eastern Florida State College will advance to the Southeast District Tournament where they will play Region X's Spartanburg Methodist on Friday night in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
