EFSC women's soccer team uses big second half to win Region 8 Final

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team came out of halftime red hot on a cold, crisp night, scoring four times to defeat Daytona State College 5-3 in the Region 8 Final Sunday night in Daytona Beach.

Tied 1-1 at the half, Ebony Wiseman gave the Titans the lead for the first time a minute into the second half. Wiseman would make it 3-1 shortly after that and then less than a minute later Katie Lockwood made it 4-1 with a nice shot to the upper corner.

Wiseman scored her third goal of the game to make it 5-1.

"Unbelievable. She just turned it up two or three notches, she was everywhere. She had three huge goals and was cramping up as well," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "She came up big tonight."

But Daytona State was not finished and with 13 minutes to go, starting goalkeeper Sarah Deinert was injured on a play and backup Megan Green came in and made a couple of big saves but allowed the second goal of the game. Deinert came back into the game to finish off the 5-3 win.

"All of a sudden it was 4-1, then 5-1 and then we made it a little tense and just couldn't finish the game," Carr said. "Fortunately, they ran out of time. What a team effort, we are excited. They are a good team and everything just came together tonight, especially in the second half."

Nathali Da Silva scored her 14th goal of the season in the first half.

The Titans advance to the District H Championship Tournament next weekend in Mississippi.
