SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 21, 2014) - The Seminole State College Lady Raiders came roaring back to win the fourth annual Wofford College Terrier Intercollegiate Tournament in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Raiders posted a remarkable turnaround on Day 2 of the 36-hole tournament at The Country Club of Spartanburg with a whopping 34-shot improvement for a 46-over-par 622 that nipped Appalachian State by one and host Wofford College by three shots.

High winds and fast greens, combined with the team's inexperience (four freshmen), had the Raiders completely out of synch on Day 1 as they found themselves in sixth place, 21 strokes behind tournament leader Wofford.  Day 2 saw the winds die down and the Raiders took full advantage, shooting a school record 294.

"We thought we had a pretty good practice round figuring out where we should be putting from, but the wind really changed everything for the kids (Monday) and I think they got a little flustered," said Seminole State head coach Christa Teno.  "We talked about getting back in our routine and all the good process things, and they did it with a big team effort and it was great to see. I couldn't be more proud of the kids and quite frankly I'm awestruck."

Only four teams improved their score from the first day with the high, other than Seminole State's 34, being nine by The Citadel.  Each of the five winning Raiders improved by at least five strokes, with freshmen Josefine Garton and Katie Dalton each bettering their scores by ten strokes. Seminole Freshman Sydney Legacy was the medalist with a 76-71—147 that edged Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger, the first-round leader, by one.

The long-hitting Legacy ditched her normal conservative persona and aggressively attacked the four par-5s to huge dividends in carding a combined five under with three birdies and a medalist-clinching eagle on the 17th, winning her first college event in three tries.

The Raiders' second round also left an impression on Wofford head coach Angie Ridgeway.

"I can't tell how impressed I am with Seminole State's (final round) 294, that's super impressive improving by that many shots. It's great to see those numbers can be shot on this course and should be encouragement for every other team that played in the tournament."
