COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 20, 2017) - Tallahassee Community College's Lawriell Wilson has been named Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Wilson, a sophomore guard from Kenner, La., averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in two games during the voting period. She shot 61.9 percent (26-of-42) from the floor, hit 2-of-3 three-pointers (66.7 percent) and 7-of-8 free throws (87.5 percent).

Wilson was dominant in a pair of Panhandle Conference showdowns with top 3 opponents.

She fueled Tallahassee's upset of defending national champion and Region 8 No. 1/NJCAA No. 1 Gulf Coast State College on January 10 with 29 points on 13-of-19 shooting, five rebounds and five assists. Last Saturday, she and the Eagles came up just short of winning at No. 2/No. 3 Chipola College, falling 91-86, but Wilson scored 32 points and recorded five rebounds and two assists.

Wilson is the fourth women's player of the week recipient from Region 8 this season, joining Chipola College's Raven Baker-Northcross (November 23), Florida State College at Jacksonville's Malaysia Robinson (December 14) and Pensacola State College's Ahiyona Vason (January 11).
