Gulf Coast State's Kristina King named NJCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 6, 2016) - Gulf Coast State College's Kristina King has been named the NJCAA's Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week. 

King was named the NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week on Tuesday.

King, a sophomore forward from Mebane, N.C., averaged 18.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks in four games, leading the top-ranked Commodores to a perfect 4-0 record during the voting period, which ran December 14-January 3. 

She shot 54.4 percent (31-of-57) from the field and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.

King scored in double-figures in all four games, including three against nationally-ranked opponents: 22 vs. (24) Florida State College at Jacksonville, 23 vs. (5) Shelton State and posted a double-double (12 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks) against (6) Chipola.

King is the third player of the week recipient from Region 8 this season. Miami Dade College's Jaiveonna Norris earned the honor November 4 while Brittney Chambers was recognized on November 18.
