Pasco-Hernando State wins Region 8 Softball Championship

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (April 23, 2022) - Pasco-Hernando State College defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville, 5-0, in Saturday's decisive game three of the NJCAA Division II Region 8 Softball Championship Series.

Game 1 winner Kylie Coffin tossed her second shutout of the weekend in the game three win. She allowed only five hits and no walks while striking out four. 

Pasco-Hernando State gave Coffin all the offensive support she needed with a run in the bottom of the second. The Bobcats scored two more in the fourth and padded their lead with another pair of runs in the fifth. 

Seven different players recorded a hit for Pasco-Hernando State, including Jenna Gabrielli, who was 1-for-3 with a solo home run. 

On Friday, the teams split a doubleheader, which prompted the winner-take-all game three.

Pasco-Hernando took the series lead with an 8-0 win in game one. 

Ashley Nickisher was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. 

Coffin's first shutout of the weekend was a five-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts. 

 

FSCJ answered with a season-saving 3-2 win in game two. 

Laila Mannion's second-inning double scored two runs to put the Blue Wave in front. After Pasco-Hernando State cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth, Haley Bond's RBI-triple got the run back in the bottom half and gave FSCJ a 3-1 advantage. 

Haleigh Campbell went the distance in the circle for FSCJ. 

By winning the best-of-3 series, Pasco-Hernando State will advance as the No. 3 seed in the NJCAA Division II South Atlantic District Tournament in Henrico, Va., May 11-14.
