Chipola wins second straight FCSAA Softball Championship

VERO BEACH, Fla. (May 1, 2016) - Chipola College won its second straight FCSAA Softball Championship with a 6-2 win over Florida SouthWestern State College.

The Indians swept their way through the three-day event for the second straight year, going undefeated in five games and earning the right to defend their national championship in St. George, Utah, May 18-21.

Chipola knocked off Miami Dade College, 8-0, in its opening round game - a rematch of the 2015 FCSAA State Championship Game - then beat Region 8's top team, the College of Central Florida, 14-2, to advance in the winner's bracket. 

On day two, Chipola and Florida SouthWestern met for the first time in the tournament. The Indians won, 4-3, sending the Buccanneers into the loser's bracket, where they won three straight elimination games, capped by a 3-2 victory over Seminole State College, to earn Region 8's second berth to the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship. 

After knocking off Florida SouthWestern in the winner's bracket semifinals, Chipola beat Seminole State on Saturday evening, 10-2, to punch its ticket to St. George. 

Chipola's Dana Edmundson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
