TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 2, 2016) - Twelve. That's the number of student-athletes Region 8 placed on the NJCAA's Division I All-America Softball Team.

Region 8 claimed four of the 16 first-team All-America slots, including pitchers Kalen McGill, from the College of Central Florida, and Florida SouthWestern's Courtney Gettins. Central Florida infielder Brooke Barlow and Hillsborough Community College outfielder Shannon Bell also earned first-team honors.  

McGill and Barlow were two of Central Florida's four all-America honorees. They were joined by second-team all-America Kelsee Cullop (OF) and third-team All-America Edrienne Williams (DP). 

Other second-team all-America recipients were Chipola College's Illona Andringa (P), Northwest Florida State College's Hannah Sparks (C) and Savannah McHellon (DP) and Indian River State College's Jessica Mohl (INF). 

Also earning third-team all-America honors were Gulf Coast State College's Keala Cordeiro (INF) and Chipola's Gabriela Santos (OF).

Cullop and Bell were also recognized as two of the top 16 hitters in the country, receiving the Marucci Elite Hitter award for District G and District H, respectively. 

Cullop led all District G players with a .476 batting average while Bell topped District H by hitting at a .474 clip.

Pasco-Hernando State College's Emily Strafford earned the Division II honor for District F, posting a .455 average on the season.
