VERO BEACH, Fla. (May 3, 2015) - Chipola College scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Miami Dade College 3-2 and win the 2015 FCSAA State Softball Championship.

Chipola advances to the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in St. George, Utah.

The win completed an undefeated run through the tournament for Chipola, who picked up five wins in as many games, including two over Miami Dade and another over FCSAA No. 1 College of Central Florida. 

Despite the loss, Miami Dade will join Chipola at the national tournament, thanks to the FCSAA's new tournament format. 

In past seasons, the FCSAA played two eight-team tournaments simultaneously, with the champion of each double-elimination tournament advancing to the national tournament. This year, the tournament moved to a new 16-team, double-elimination format, providing the possibility for both of Region 8's representatives to come from the same conference. 

Two of the final four teams remaining hailed from the Panhandle Conference - Tallahassee Community College joined Chipola on the final day of play, but the Eagles were eliminated by Seminole State College, 10-0, in Sunday's first game. 

Seminole State moved on to play Miami Dade in a rematch of Saturday's winner's bracket contest and the Sharks delivered their second straight shutout of the Raiders, winning 2-0, to clinch a berth to the national tournament. 

That left Chipola and Miami Dade to battle for the state championship, and the Sharks were three outs away from winning the crown, but the Indians rallied for three runs in their final at-bat to take the lead. 

The champion Indians placed four players on the FCSAA All-Tournament Team: infielder Courtney Davis, outfielder Shelby Clark, designated player Madison Ragan and pitcher Jessica Elliott. 

Miami Dade also had four players selected led by tournament most valuable player, pitcher Milena Calixto. Other Sharks named to the all-tournament team were infielder Crystal Garcia, outfielder Samantha Arrastia and catcher Erin Sundock. 

Other players named to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team were: 

• Infielders: Jessica Delawder, Florida State College at Jacksonville; Rachel Minier, Seminole State; Brooke Marendino, Tallahassee
• Outfielders; Ashely Sims, Seminole State; Taesha DuBoise, Tallahassee
• Catchers: Abbie Millete, Seminole State
• Pitcher: Stephanie Adkins, Seminole State

The NJCAA Division I Softball Championship begins Wednesday, May 13 in St. George, Utah.
