EFSC men's soccer team beats Broward in Region 8 final

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team won its second straight Region 8 Conference Tournament championship Saturday night, defeating Broward College 1-0 on the road.

Freshman midfielder Schimiliguen Castin took a pass from Marc Grifell in the first 25 minutes of the game to give the Titans a 1-0 early. The Seahawks had a good chance to tie it up a minute later but Noir Moaoui made the diving save to keep the lead.

"It was a great game today, I got a good pass by Marc and I did my thing," Castin said.

Broward came out strong in the second half, but the Titans defense was up to the task to post their sixth shutout of the season.

"Much respect for coach Munga (Eketebi) and the Broward Seahawks, they were the No. 1 seed and they had beaten us twice this year and we knew it would be difficult. The boys just dug in and that has really been the character this team has, the ability to dig in, fight and battle. When we get that early goal we know we are going to be incredibly hard to beat."

The Titans will advance to the Southeast District Tournament for the fifth time in six years next weekend. The tournament will be held in Georgia and the top two teams will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.
