The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team won the NJCAA District 4 Championship Tuesday afternoon in Brewton, Alabama to advance to the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.

The Titans won a district title for the fourth time in the past five years and advanced to the national tournament for the 15th straight time.

As they have all season, the Titans did it behind a strong team performance as four players finished in the top 10 in the district tournament, finishing with a 278 as a team and 866 for the tournament. Brad Bawden finished second to Wallace State's Chip Willoughby after a final round of 3-under 69. Bawden finished 2-under 214 for the tourney.

Mathieu Echelard tied for third place by shooting even par in the final round and finished the three-round tournament even. Teammate Fraser Davren shot one of the best rounds of the day, 4-under 68 to move into fifth place at 1-over for the tournament.

Tyler Bennett shot 3-under Tuesday to finish tied for ninth. Michael Stewart placed in a tie for 25th.

It is the seventh district title for Howell, who was pleased with the Titans performance.

"Awesome day by the team, a lot of hard work showed in their play this week," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "To stretch the lead after sleeping on it and finishing strong, it is a proud time for the team and I am more than proud of their performance."

The team will prepare for another shot at a national championship title beginning May 16 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kansas.
