FSCJ BlueWave

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Florida State College at Jacksonville's magical season continued on Saturday, winning the NJCAA DII Gulf South District Championship, 72-69, over Snead (Ala.) State Community College.

One week after winning the first FCSAA Championship in school history, FSCJ punched its first-ever ticket to a NJCAA Tournament. The BlueWave will head to Danville, Ill., for the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship, March 18-23.

Snead State led 35-33 at the half but FSCJ roared back over the final 20 minutes, and seemingly had control, leading 68-60 as the clock went under 1:00 remaining in the game.

The Parsons knocked down a three, then scored off a FSCJ turnover to make things very interesting. Snead State got as close as one before the BlueWave knocked down free throws to hold on the victory.

Four players scored in double-figures for FSCJ, led by Alex McCray with 19. Eddie Mitchell came off the bench to score 17. Tarence Guinyard had 14 and Jordan Smith, 11.

FSCJ will find out its seed in the 20-team field on Tuesday.
