HIALEAH, FL – Going up against a point guard who is regarded as one of the best junior college players in the state, ASA Miami freshman point guard Sebastien Jean took that challenge and turned in one of his best performances of the season – scoring a game-high 27 points along with grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out seven assists to lead the Silver Storm to 88-85 victory over host Broward College Wednesday night in George E. Mayer Gymnasium.

The teams went back and forth throughout the second half – with neither team holding more than a five-point lead over the first 10 minutes of the final period – and were tied at 70 with just over five minutes to play until ASA Miami was able to string together a handful of defensive stops and went on 15-5 run (including a 7-0 spurt) to take an 85-75 lead with 43 seconds after freshman Jaryn McCann threw down a thunderous breakaway dunk.

Broward College didn't go away quietly, however. The Seahawks went on their own 7-0 run in a matter of 18 seconds thanks largely to a four-point play. ASA pushed its lead out to 86-82 after Gabe Casey made one of two free throws, Broward missed a three-pointer on the ensuing trip up the court, then Jean calmly knocked down his 16th and 17th free throws of the night to put the Silver Storm up 88-82 with eight seconds left. Broward College hit what would be an inconsequential three-pointer on its next possession as the Silver Storm was able to run out the remaining three seconds.

ASA Miami head coach Jean Dubuisson said that Wednesday's outcome was the result of the team's preparation.

Jean recorded his third double-double of the season – two behind teammate Malik Brikat's program record five double-doubles this year – while also setting new program marks for most free throws made, attempted, and consecutive free throws made.

"There are some great point guards in our conference…Malik Curry from Palm Beach State is good as is [Broward College's] C.J. Roberts, but I think [Sebastien] is right up there with them," Dubuisson said.

By comparison, Roberts finished with 20 points, no rebounds, four assists, and four turnovers.

Redshirt sophomore Matt Maturah added 17 points (5-of-9 from three-point range), Brikat – who was saddled with foul trouble throughout the game – finished with a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double (his fifth), Marko Jovanovic also had 12, and sophomore Brandon Stewart contributed six points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Downing the Seahawks on their home floor for the second time this season keeps ASA (9-18, 4-5 Southern Conference) still very much in control of its postseason destiny. Wednesday's win equaled the Silver Storm's third straight conference victory – a program record – and moved them into a tie for third place with Miami Dade College in the conference standings behind Palm Beach State College and Indian River State College respectively. Only the top two teams advance to the state tournament and ASA could punch its ticket to the dance for the first time in program history if they are able to win out over the next week – with home games against Miami Dade (Feb. 16) and Palm Beach State (Feb. 23) and a road game at Indian River (Feb. 20).

After trailing by as many as 14 midway through the first half, the Silver Storm clawed their way back into the game and cut the deficit to 43-41 by the halftime buzzer.
