In spite of Casey's career night, ASA Miami couldn't topple the nation's No. 10 ranked junior college basketball team – falling 86-64 to Florida Southwestern State College in front of 420 fans in Suncoast Credit Union Arena Tuesday night. ASA Miami (1-7), which was playing its fourth road game in five days Tuesday, only trailed 37-32 at halftime and evenly sparred with the Buccaneers (7-0) through the first handful of minutes of the second half. The Silver Storm's ultimate undoing, however, was a combination of turnovers and being out-rebounded by Florida Southwestern. Casey's big night was powered by his ability to shoot the ball from long range. The Oasis Christian School alumnus was able to knock down 5-of-12 three-pointers Tuesday – many of which came more than two steps behind the three-point arc. Aside from Casey, the Silver Storm got 13 points and seven rebounds from freshman forward Jonathan Vilchez. The recent road trip has been good to Vilchez, who has averaged 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds during the four-game stretch. ASA freshman forward Jaryn McCann has also played well during the Silver Storm's road trip (averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds), including finishing with 12 points and 4 boards against the Buccaneers. Vilchez, Casey, and McCann were the only ASA players to finish in double digits Tuesday. Michael Ferguson added 6 points and Brandon Stewart finished with 5 points, as the Silver Storm only had five players record points. The Silver Storm was missing a big chunk of their scoring punch since leading scorer Marko Jovanovic has been relegated to the sideline with a hand injury. Jovanovic sustained the injury during ASA's win over Game Changers Academy this past Tuesday but traveled with the team this past weekend and tried to play through the pain. He ended up playing one game (Friday) and sat out the next two as well as not making the trip to Fort Myers Tuesday – further shortening ASA Miami head coach Jean Dubuisson's bench since he was already playing without freshman forward Levard Missick (concussion) and sophomore guard Marquez Smith (leg). Worse yet, ASA Miami ended up losing the rebound battle 45-35 and turned the ball over 22 times compared to just 12 giveaways by Florida Southwestern State. The Buccaneers were led by Charles Manning Jr., who finished with 23 points (11-of-19 from the field) and Terrence Lewis II, who finished totaled 16 points (8-of-9 from the field) and six rebounds.
