TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 14, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played May 8-14. 

This is the final baseball player and pitcher of the week selections for 2017.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Reynaldo Rivera, Chipola
Sophomore – 1B
Toa Alta, P.R. 

  • Batted .571 (8-for-14) with seven runs scored, one double, two home runs and five RBIs in three games during the voting period
  • Hit .391 (9-for-23) during five total games in the Gulf District Tournament and was named Most Valuable Player
  • Went 3-for-4 and scored four runs in an 18-6 win over NJCAA No. 18 Palm Beach State in the winner’s bracket final
  • Hit a solo homer and was 3-for-5 in an 11-1 win over No. 13 Santa Fe
  • Homered, drove in three runs and was 2-for-5 vs. Palm Beach State in a 12-0 win in the championship game

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Riley Cabral, Chipola
Sophomore – RHP
Oklahoma City, Okla. 

  • 1-0, 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period
  • In two appearances during the Gulf District Tournament, he was 2-0 (0.00 ERA, 12 IP, 16 K) and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Pitcher
  • Got the start in the championship game vs. NJCAA No. 18 Palm Beach State and tossed six shutout innings in Chipola’s 12-0 win. He allowed just three hits and one walk and struck out seven
