Tackett, Goodard earn NJCAA honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 25, 2016) - Two more student-athletes from Region 8 took home Player of the Week honors on Thursday.

Northwest Florida State College's Hunter Tackett was named NJCAA D1 Baseball Player of the Week while Daytona State College's Jesse Goddard was named NJCAA D1 Softball Pitcher of the Week. 

Both players were named NJCAA Region 8 Players of the Week on Tuesday. 

Tackett, a sophomore left fielder from Knoxville, Tenn., batted .600 (9-for-15) with five runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs in four games during the voting period.

He led Northwest Florida State to a perfect 4-0 week with four straight multi-hit games. Hel also drove in at least one run in each game. 

Tackett's top performance came against Lurleen B. Wallace when he was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two home runs and seven RBIs. Was a combined 4-for-7 with a home run and six RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Andrew on February 20.

Goddard is a freshman pitcher from Surrey. B.C., Canada. 

Last week, she was 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. She tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout in 1-0 win vs. South Florida State. 

Goddard allowed three hits and one run over six innings in her team’s 7-1 win vs. St. Petersburg.

In 13 total innings, she allowed six hits, one run and four walks and struck out 13.

Tackett is the third baseball player to be recognized by the NJCAA his season but the first Player of the Week. Previously, Tallahassee Community College's Craig Olson and Daytona State's Craig Olosn were named national pitcher of the week. 

Goddard is the third straight pitcher from Region 8 to receive the award, joining the College of Central Florida's Kalen McGill and Florida SouthWestern State College's Courtney Geddings.
