NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: February 9

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 9, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls for February 9 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for all games played through February 7. 

The next poll and Player and Pitcher of the week selections will be released February 16.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Alex Hanson, St. Petersburg
Sophomore – OF
Lutz, Fla. 

  • Batted .536 (15-for-28) with 11 runs scored, one double, one triple, one RBI and six stolen bases in seven games played during the voting period
  • Led St. Petersburg to a 5-2 record in games in which he played (DNP vs. San Jacinto)
  • Hit safely in all seven games, including five multi-hit games and a trio of three-hit performances
  • 3-for-6, with a double and triple and scored three runs in an 8-7 win vs. Pensacola State
  • 3-for-5, scored a run and stole two bases in 10-9 win vs. Howard (Texas) College
  • Also had multi-hit games vs. NJCAA No. 18 Chipola, Blinn and NJCAA No. 7 McLennan

  • 2-0, 0.00 ERA, 14 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K in two games during the voting period
  • Threw consecutive (seven inning) complete-game two-hit shutouts vs. NJCAA No. 5 Chattahoochee Valley and East Georgia State
  • Came within two outs of a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 5-0 win vs. Chattahoochee Valley
  • Went the distance in a 1-0 victory over East Georgia State, the Eagles’ eighth straight win to start the season

  • Batted .600 (15-for-25) with nine runs scored, four doubles, two home runs (1.000 slugging percentage) and 16 RBIs in eight games during the voting period
  • Led Florida State College to a 7-1 record
  • Hit safely (five multi-hit games) and drove in a run (seven multi-RBI games) in all eight games
  • 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in win vs. NJCAA (DII) No. 8 Illinois Central and 2-for-3 with a run scored, double and two RBIs in win vs. NJCAA No. 12 Wallace State-Hanceville
  • Was 8-for-10 with four runs scored and six RBIs over her final three games, all on February 6

  • Complete-game victories vs. NJCAA No. 10 Odessa (2 H, UER, BB, 5 K) and Region 8 No. 5 Tallahassee (4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K)
  • Pitched three innings against both Georgia Highlands and Region 8 No. 8 Polk State, allowing a combined one hit with eight strikeouts
