NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: December 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 8, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for December 8 and Player of the Week selections for the week ending December 6.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released December 15.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kevin Maura, Central Florida
Sophomore – Guard
San Juan, P.R. 

  • Averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 3.3 steals in three games
  • Shot 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field, 60.0 percent (9-of-15) on three-pointers and 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the free throw line
  • Led Central Florida to a 2-1 record at the Fisher’s Technology Invitational, hosted by the College of Southern Idaho
  • Dished out 14 assists vs. Planet Athlete then followed up with 25 points and six assists vs. Western Wyoming. Had 21 points, four rebounds and nine assists in 74-59 win over NJCAA No. 17 Southern Idaho

NJCAA Region 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Thais Oliveira, Central Florida
Sophomore – Forward/Center
Manus Amazonas, Brazil 

  • Averaged 25.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks in three games
  • Shot 62.9 percent (34-of-54) from the floor and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line
  • Recorded a double-double in each of the Patriots’ three games to run her streak to six in a row
  • Had 34 points on 16-of-20 shooting and 11 rebounds vs. Eastern Florida State. In her other two outings, tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds vs. Gulf Coast State and 21 points and 10 rebounds vs. Chipola
