NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: December 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 1, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for December 1 and Player of the Week selections for the week ending November 29.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released December 8. The NJCAA’s first regular season polls will be released December 1 (men) and 2 (women).

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Marvin Jean-Pierre, Miami Dade
Sophomore – Guard
Pompano Beach, Fla. 

  • Averaged 27.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 5.0 steals in three games
  • Led Miami Dade to a 2-1 record at the Select Physical Therapy Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Pensacola State College. Wins came against Region 8 No. 5 Tallahassee and host Pensacola State.
  • Shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the floor, 50.0 percent (8-of-16) on three-pointers and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the free throw line
  • After posting 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and seven steals in a narrow two-point loss to No. 1 Northwest Florida State, he had back-to-back 30-point efforts against Tallahassee and Pensacola State, shooting 10-of-19 from the floor in both games

  • Averaged 20.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.7 blocks in three games
  • Led Central Florida to a 3-0 record and wins over Indian River State, Region 8 No. 8 Pensacola State and Broward
  • Shot 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the floor and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the free throw line
  • Recorded three consecutive double-doubles, including a 25-point, 12-rebound effort vs. Indian River State. Had 17 points and 12 rebounds vs. Pensacola State and 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks vs. Broward
