FCSAA Basketball Notebook: November 18

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 18, 2014) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls and Player of the Week selections for November 18. 

The next will be released Tuesday, November 25.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Elmo Stephen, Tallahassee
Sophomore – Guard

Tallahassee Community College’s Elmo Stephen is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Stephen, a sophomore from Auburndale, Fla., averaged 29.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in two games during the voting period. Both games came at the Applebee’s Okefenokee Classic, hosted by South Georgia State College, and came against teams off to strong starts in 2014. Against South Georgia Tech (November 14), he poured in a career-high 35 points, knocking down 13 field goals in the Eagles’ 84-77 win. The next night, he added 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting as Tallahassee knocked off previously undefeated South Georgia State 87-72. For the week, Stephen shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the floor, 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from the three-point line and hit all seven of his free throw attempts. 

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Wesley Alcegaire, Daytona State – averaged 22.0 points and 11.rebounds in two games
  • Daemon Ashley, Pasco-Hernando State – averaged 17.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in three games
  • Payton Hulsey, Eastern Florida State – averaged 13.0 points and 13.5 rebounds in two games
  • Jarrel Marshall, Palm Beach State – averaged 22.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games
  • Deandre Turner, Broward – averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals in two games

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Tyisha Moore, Pensacola State
Sophomore – Forward
Deland, Florida

Pensacola State College’s Tyisha Moore is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Moore, a sophomore from Deland, Fla., averaged 19.1 points, 12.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in three games during the voting period, including a pair of contests against Region 8 opponents. She posted double-doubles in each game, beginning with a 13-point, 12-rebound effort against Meridian on November 10. At a weekend classic in Jacksonville, Fla., she recorded 19 points and 12 rebounds against Indian River State and 27 points and 13 rebounds against nationally-ranked Florida State College at Jacksonville. For the week, Moore shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field and 62.5 percent from the free throw line.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Evelyn Akhator, Chipola – averaged 25.0 points and 18.5 rebounds in two games
  • Jackie Blake, Miami Dade – averaged 19.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games
  • Breonna O’Connor, Indian River State – averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two games
