FT. PIERCE, Fla. (November 5, 2014) - Indian River State College's men's and women's swimming & diving teams started their 2014-15 season by competing against the women’s team from Florida International University and the men’s team from Texas A&M.
The meets were held at the Pioneers' home pool on the main campus of Indian River State College.
On the women’s side, the 200 medley relay team consisting of returning NJCAA swimmer of the year Barbara Caraballo, freshmen Christina Loh, Tayla Lovemore, and Lindsay Lee, started off with a win in an impressive 1:44.71.
Caraballo would go on to also win the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and play an important role in the 400 freestyle relay win with teammates Lovemore, Leah Sims, and Lee.
Other event winners included Ashley Wright (1m and 3m diving), Loh (100 and 200 breaststroke), and Lovemore in the 100 butterfly.
Despite Indian River State winning nine of the 16 events, FIU proved to be too strong and came away with the meet victory by a score of 174 – 126.
In the men’s competition, Indian River State showed its talents in a few events, but were unable to overcome the depth of A&M losing the meet by a score of 209.5 – 89.5.
Event wins came from Stefan Stojmenovic in the 100 butterfly and Erle Craven in the 200 breaststroke. There were some close races in which The River narrowly missed the win taking second place in six of the remaining 14 events.
Indian River State will next host Nova Southeastern University at 1 p.m., November 8.
