FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: May 5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 5, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for May 5.

Congratulations to Chipola College, FCSAA State Softball Champions, and Miami Dade College, FCSAA Runners-up. Both teams have qualified for the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in St. George, Utah.

The NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Baseball Tournament begins Friday, May 8 and continues through Wednesday, May 13 in Lakeland, Fla.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Jessica Delawder, Florida State College at Jacksonville

Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Jessica Delawder is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Delawder, a freshman from Farmington, Conn., batted .667 (10-for-15) with three runs scored, one double, one triple and seven RBIs in four games during the voting period. She led the Blue Wave into the second day of play at the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament, where they ended with a 2-2 record. In her team’s first three games, Delawder went a combined 10-for-11, including a 4-for-4, 4-RBI effort against St. Petersburg.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Milena Calixto, Miami Dade
Sophomore – RHP
Curtiba, Brazil

Miami Dade College’s Milena Calixto is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Calixto, a sophomore from Curtiba, Brazil, went 4-2 with a 1.79 ERA in six games during the voting period. She pitched 39 of Miami Dade's 42 total innings at the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Softball Tournament, leading the Sharks to a runners-up finish and berth to the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship. Her four wins included a pair of complete-game shutouts against NJCAA No. 4 Seminole State. In her 39 total innings in the circle, she recorded 34 strikeouts.
