Bell, Akhator, Gibson lead NJCAA All-America selections

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 31, 2015) - The 2014-15 NJCAA All-America teams for men's and women's basketball were released Tuesday. 

Seven student-athletes from Region 8 received All-America honors, including three first-team selections - Northwest Florida State College's Benji Bell, Chipola College's Evelyn Akhator and Gulf Coast State College's Chelsey Gibson. 

Bell, the 2015 Panhandle Conference and FCSAA Player of the Year, led Northwest Florida State to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. Akhator did the same for Chipola, leading the Lady Indians to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship while earning Panhandle Conference and FCSAA Player of the Year honors. 

Gibson led Gulf Coast State to a berth in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Basketball Tournament, where the Commodores advanced to the semifinals. 

In addition to the trio of first-team All-Americans, Daytona State College's Tanksley Efianayi and Chipola's Sueterrica Key were named second-team All-America and Eastern Florida State College's Kyle Meyer and Northwest Florida State's Simone Westbrook were named honorable mention.
