FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: March 17

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 17, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for March 17.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, March 24.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week
Maurice Cooley, Chipola
Freshman - OF
Jacksonville, Fla.

Chipola College’s Maurice Cooley is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Cooley, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .500 (11-for-22) with nine runs scored, one double, four home runs, eight RBI and two stolen bases in five games during the voting period. Cooley had multi-hit outings in each game, scored multiple runs four times, had three two-RBI games and homered in four of five games. His final two games ushered in Panhandle Conference play and he was a combined 5-for-9 with two homers and four RBIs vs. Northwest Florida State.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Danny Rodriguez, Pasco-Hernando State
Sophomore - RHP
Lutz, Fla.

Pasco-Hernando State College’s Danny Rodriguez is this week’s NJCAA Region8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Rodriguez, a sophomore from Lutz, Fla., was 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. Rodriguez picked up two complete-game victories, including a five-hit shutout against Three Rivers on March 10, in which he struck out nine. On March 14, he allowed only four hits and struck out nine in an 8-1 win over NJCAA (DII) No. 19 Lincoln Land. For the week, he struck out 18 and allowed only four walks in 18 innings of work and held opponents to a .153 batting average. With the two victories, Rodriguez is also just one win away from tying Pasco-Hernando State’s career record of 17.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Bevia Robinson, Pensacola State

Harvest, Ala.

Pensacola State College’s Bevia Robinson is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Robinson, a freshman from Harvest, Ala., batted .643 (9-for-14) with 11 runs scored, one home run, four RBIs and five stolen bases in four games during the voting period. In a doubleheader sweep of Three Rivers on March 12, she went a combined 4-for-6 with five runs scored and three stolen bases. Two days later, she was 3-for-4, scored four runs, drove in three and homered against NJCAA (DII) No. 20 BlackHawk then went 2-for-4 and scored twice against St. Louis.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Morgan Williams, Seminole State
Freshman – RHP
Callahan, Fla.

Seminole State College’s Morgan Williams is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Williams, a freshman from Callahan, Fla., went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. She picked up wins over Mid-Florida Conference foes Lake-Sumter State and Florida State College at Jacksonville, the first coming in the way of a two-hit shutout. For the week, Williams totaled 11 innings in the circle and allowed nine hits while striking out eight.
