FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: March 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 10, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for March 10.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, March 17.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week
Romero Greer, Pensacola State
Freshman - SS
Copper Canyon, Texas

Pensacola State College’s Romero Greer is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Greer, a freshman from Copper Canyon, Texas, batted .550 (11-for-20) with four runs scored, four doubles, one triple and three RBIs in six games during the voting period. Greer did his work during Pensacola State’s three-day Spring Fling event, and included four multi-hit games. The Pirates picked up four wins, including two against NJCAA No. 3 Delgado in which Greer was a combined 5-for-7 with two runs scored, three doubles and three RBIs. He also had two hits in games against Snead State and Baton Rouge and was 1-for-4 with a double against NJCAA DII power LSU-Eunice.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Trent Johnson, Santa Fe

Williston, Fla.

Santa Fe College’s Trent Johnson is this week’s NJCAA Region8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Johnson, a freshman from Williston, Fla., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period. The right-hander pitched eight scoreless innings in Santa Fe’s 9-0 win over Mid-Florida Conference rival Central Florida on March 6. He allowed only four hits, walked none and struck out six, upping his season strikeout to walk ratio to an impressive 33-1.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Heather Roberts, Seminole State

Jacksonville, Fla.

Seminole State College’s Heather Roberts is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Roberts, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .600 (6-for-10 with three runs scored, four doubles, one home run and four RBIs in four games during the voting period. She was a combined 5-for-7 with four doubles, a home run and three RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of State College of Florida on March 5. Three days later, in only three official plate appearances vs. Lincoln Land, she scored twice and drove in a run, however, she did draw three walks in the doubleheader.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Jessica Elliott, Chipola
Sophomore – RHP
Orlando, Fla.

Chipola College’s Jessica Elliott is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Elliott, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period. She tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts – a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts vs. Darton State on March 3 and a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts against nationally-ranked Southern Union four days later. In 13 total innings, Elliott allowed only three hits and six walks while striking out 23.
