Indian River State splits with University of Tampa, Florida Southern

FT. PIERCE, Fla. (January 20, 2015) - The Indian River State College men’s & women’s swimming & diving team competed in back-to back dual meets over the weekend when they hosted the University of Tampa on Friday, January 16 and traveled to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Florida Southern College on Saturday, January 17.

Swimming against Tampa, both teams earned victories over their rival by winning nine of the 11 events for the women, and seven of the 11 for the men.

Leading the way for the women were Barbara Caraballo (50 and 100 free), Christina Loh (100 fly and 100 breast), Rebecca Halfast (200 free), Olivia Jacobi (400 IM) and Tayla Lovemore (100 back). The women also won both the 200 medley relay (Barbara Caraballo, Christina Loh, Tayla Lovemore, and Leah Sims) and the 400 free relay (Sarah Neely, Tayla Lovemore, Rebecca Halfast, and Kaitlyn Yearout).

For the men, victories came from Quinn Poti (400 IM and 500 free), Adam Wise (200 free), Shota Nakano (100 fly), Stefan Stojmenovic (100 back) and Craig Emslie (100 breast). The men were also able to win the 200 medley relay with the team of Stefan Stojmenovic, Craig Emslie, Shota Nakano, and Danny Hartley.

Although it received some great performances, Indian River State was not able to match the strength of NCAA Division 2 powerhouse Florida Southern. 

The womenm, however, came away with victories in six of the 11 events contested and were led by Christina Loh (100 fly and 100 breast), Barbara Caraballo (200 IM), Tayla Lovemore (100 back), and both the 400 medley relay (Tayla Lovemore, Christina Loh, Barbara Caraballo, and Leah Sims), and the 200 free relay teams (Tayla Lovemore, Barbara Caraballo, Leah Sims, and Kaitlyn Yearout).

For the men, Indian River State walked away with three victories from Stefan Stojmenovic (100 fly), Quinn Poti (500 free), and Erle Craven (100 breast).

Indian River State will have a free weekend before travelling to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic University on Saturday, January 31.
