TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 24, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls and Player of the Week selections for February 24. 

The final regular season poll will be released Tuesday, March 3.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Shane Rector, Miami Dade

Miami Dade College’s Shane Rector is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Rector, a sophomore from the Bronx, averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two games during the voting period. His efforts led the Sharks to road wins at nationally-ranked Broward and Palm Beach State and an eventual berth in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Tournament. At Broward on February 18, he tallied 19 points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals in Miami Dade’s 93-87 win. Three days later against Palm Beach State, he scored 30 points, including a shot at the buzzer that gave the Sharks the 78-76 win and a trip to the postseason. For the week, Rector shot 60.0 percent (15-of-25) from the floor, 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the three-point line and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Tanksley Efianayi, Daytona State – averaged 26.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games
  • Demetrius McReynolds, Eastern Florida State – 25 points and five rebounds in his only game of the week vs. Broward
  • Kyle Meyer, Eastern Florida State – 27 points and nine rebounds in his only game of the week vs. Broward 

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Evelyn Akhator, Chipola
Sophomore – Forward/Center
Lagos, Nigeria 

Chipola College’s Evelyn Akhator is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Akhator, a sophomore from Lagos, Nigeria, averaged 24.5 points, 18.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 5.0 blocks in two games during the voting period. She recorded double-doubles in wins against two nationally-ranked opponents – No. 5 Northwest Florida State and No. 22 Tallahassee. Against Tallahassee on February 17, she shot 14-of-19 from the floor en route to a 34-point, 20-rebound effort. Four nights later, her 15 points and 16 rebounds helped Chipola to a 70-61 win at Northwest Florida State and the Indians’ second straight Panhandle Conference Championship. For the week, Akhator shot 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the floor and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Jackie Blake, Miami Dade – averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games
  • Brittney Chambers, Daytona State – averaged 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games
  • Breonna O’Conner, Indian River State – averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two games
  • Camary Williams, Hillsborough – 35 points and 14 rebounds in her only game of the week vs. Santa Fe
