FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: April 28

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 28, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Baseball Coaches’ Poll, and Baseball and Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for April 28.

This is the final regular season coaches’ poll for baseball. The final softball coaches’ poll was released April 21.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week
Kyle Jackson, Polk State
Sophomore – OF
Atlanta, Ga. 

Polk State College’s Kyle Jackson is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Jackson, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., batted .313 (5-for-16) with four runs scored, three home runs and five RBIs in four games during the voting period. After going hitless in his first game of the week vs. South Florida State, Jackson homered in each game of a three-game set with Hillsborough. He had two hits in each of the last two games of the series and was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs in game three.  

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Brad Labozetta, Polk State
Sophomore – RHP
Lakeland, Fla. 

Polk State College’s Brad Labozetta is this week’s NJCAA Region8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Labozetta, a sophomore from Lakeland, Fla., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period. Against South Florida State on April 21, he pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout in the Eagles’ 10-0, seven-inning victory. Labozetta held South Florida State hitless through four innings, finishing with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Cheyenne Jones, Northwest Florida State
Freshman – SS
Levittown, Pa. 

Northwest Florida State’s Cheyenne Jones is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Jones, a freshman from Levittown, Pa., batted .533 (8-for-15) with six runs scored, three doubles, two triples, a home run (1.200 slugging percentage) and five RBIs in three games during the voting period. Her efforts led the Raiders to two wins in three games, including the completion of a suspended contest that clinched the Panhandle’s No. 2 seed. In a game one win vs. Pensacola State on April 20, she was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a triple. She followed that by going 3-for-6 – finishing a single shy of hitting for the cycle – with three runs scored and three RBIs in game two. The next day, in wrapping up a suspended game with Gulf Coast State, she finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and another RBI. 

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Stephanie Adkins, Seminole State
Sophomore – RHP
Orlando, Fla. 

Seminole State College’s Stephanie Adkins is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Adkins, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances during the voting period. She picked up three complete-game victories, including an eight-inning effort vs. Polk State, to run her record to 22-5. In 22 total innings in the circle, she allowed 13 hits, four runs (all unearned) and only four walks. Keyed by a pair of double-digit strikeout efforts, including 12 against St. Petersburg, she struck out a total 30 batters.
