FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: April 14

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 14, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for April 14.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, April 21.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week
Nick Horvath, Santa Fe
Freshman – OF
Jupiter, Fla. 

Santa Fe College’s Nick Horvath is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Horvath, a freshman from Jupiter, Fla., batted .500 (7-for-14) with five runs scored, one double, one home run and six RBIs in three games during the voting period. Horvath extended his streak of multi-hit games to five with seven total hits in a three-game set with Seminole State. In the opener, he was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. His best game of the series came in game two when he was 2-for-5 with three runs scored, a homer and two RBIs. In the final game against the Raiders, he was 3-for-5, scored one run and drove in two.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Anthony Delaney, Palm Beach State

Wellington, Fla. 

Palm Beach State College’s Anthony Delaney is this week’s NJCAA Region8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Delaney, a sophomore from Wellington, Fla., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period. He pitched a one-hit shutout in the Panthers’ 1-0 win over Broward on April 7. In the winning effort, Delaney only walked one batter and struck out six.  

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Heather Roberts, Seminole State
Freshman – C
Jacksonville, Fla. 

Seminole State College’s Heather Roberts is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Roberts, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., batted .600 (9-for-15) with ten runs scored, one double, three home runs and eight RBIs in six games during the voting period. After going hitless in her first game of the week, she homered in the next three games, totaling six RBIs in the process. Then, in a doubleheader with NJCAA No. 1 Central Florida, she was a combined 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Stephanie Adkins, Seminole State
Sophomore – RHP
Orlando, Fla. 

Seminole State College’s Stephanie Adkins is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Adkins, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., went 3-1 with one save and a 1.09 ERA in five appearances during the voting period. She started the week by factoring into both games of a doubleheader with Florida State College at Jacksonville on April 7 – in game one, she pitched a five-inning no-hitter (11 strikeouts) then recorded the game two save. After going 1-1 in a doubleheader with Santa Fe, Adkins pitched the Raiders to, arguably, their biggest win of the season – a game one triumph over NJCAA No. 1 Central Florida on April 11 in which she tossed a complete-game four-hitter with seven strikeouts. For the week, Adkins totaled 19.1 innings in the circle and allowed only 13 hits, three runs (all earned) and four walks while striking out 29.
