TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


September 25, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches September 18-24)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Katielle Alonzo, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Arianna Warner, Daytona State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Madison O'Sullivan, Polk State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Kylie Ciani, Pasco-Hernando State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Paige Patterson, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Co-Setters of the Week: Ashlyn Banton, Palm Beach State; Kiara Vega, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Alyssa Spagnoli, Tallahassee

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: The NJCAA Division I Poll continues to be led by No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College and No. 2 Miami Dade College ahead of the teams' No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown on Wednesday. Polk State College is up next at No. 15 followed by No. 17 Daytona State College and No. 18 Eastern Florida State College. 
    • Division II: Pensacola State College continued to climb in the NJCAA Division II Poll, moving into the top ten at No. 9. Gulf Coast State College is No. 15 and Pasco-Hernando State College received votes for the first time this season.   
  • Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State took game one of a regular-season best-of-3 vs. Daytona State, knocking off the Falcons, 3-2. The Titans can claim the Region 8 Championship when the teams next meet on October 21. Despite the outcome, Eastern Florida State remains No. 8 and Daytona State, No. 12, in the NJCAA Division I Poll.
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Daytona State and Eastern Florida State are ranked Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Polk State received votes for the fifth straight week despite falling to Daytona State in the Region 8 opener for both teams. 
    • Division II: The Region 8 Championship will be decided this weekend when Pensacola State College travels to Pasco-Hernando State for a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday.
  • Cross Country:
    • Women: In the Division I poll, Eastern Florida State and Seminole State College are Nos. 15 and 24, respectively. In the Division II poll, Daytona State sits at No. 4 with No. 7 Pasco-Hernando State close behind. South Florida State College was the big mover, going from unranked to No. 13 while Florida Gateway College and the College of Central Florida stayed put at Nos. 16 and 19, respectively. In a light weekend competition-wise, Pensacola State outpaced Chipola College in the team scoring at the UWF Argonaut Invitational. Tallahassee Community College participated but did not qualify for team scoring. 
    • Men: Eastern Florida State moved up two spots to No. 17 in the Division I poll. In Division II, Daytona State is No. 4 and Pasco-Hernando State, No. 9. Lake-Sumter State College entered the poll at No. 24. 
  • Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State is currently tied for first at the Southeastern District Preview in Union Grove, Ala.
  • Women's Golf: Daytona State competed in its first event of the fall, going head-to-head with NCAA DIs at Furman's Lady Paladin Invitational. 
  • Men's Tennis: Eastern Florida State dominated at the Fall ITA JUCO Southeast Regional Championships in Albertville, Ala. 
  • Swimming & Diving: Indian River State College opened its season with an impressive sweep of Florida Atlantic. The River men beat FAU, 156-144, while the women prevailed, 152-148.
