TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.

• Region 8 Volleyball Coaches' Polls (DI/DII)

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches September 4-10)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

• Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Alondra Alarcon, Florida SouthWestern
• Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Irene Mostardini, Polk State
• Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Roberta Purashaj, Florida SouthWestern
• Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Kaylee Hunt, Lake-Sumter State
• Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Maddie Mire, Pensacola State
• Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Kiara Vega, Pensacola State
• Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Alyssa Spagnoli, Tallahassee

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

• Volleyball
  • Division I: Polk State College entered the NJCAA Division I Poll for the first time at No. 17. With the Eagles' entry, Region 8 now boasts five teams in the Top 20. Florida SouthWestern State College still sits atop the poll followed by No. 2 Miami Dade College and No. 10 Eastern Florida State College. Daytona State College is ranked No. 18.    
  • Division II: Pensacola State College entered the NJCAA Division II Poll at No. 18 ahead of Wednesday's battle against No. 3 Gulf Coast State College. 
• Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State dropped its first match of the season and slipped to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division I Poll, one spot behind No. 8 Daytona State.
• Women's Soccer
  • Division I: Eastern Florida State and Daytona State are again ranked Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Polk State received votes for the third straight week.
  • Division II: After playing to a 1-1 tie on Friday, Pensacola State defeated Pasco-Hernando State College, 2-0, on Saturday. The teams will play another doubleheader on September 29 and 30 to decide the Region 8 Champion. 
• Cross Country:
  • Women: In what was a light weekend schedule, Chipola College, Pensacola State and Tallahassee Community College all made their season debuts. Chipola and Tallahassee participated in the TCC Open while Pensacola State went to nearby Mobile, Ala., for the Azalea City Classic. 
• Women's Golf: Seminole State College won its Warm-up Tournament with a score of 610 over the two-day event. Eastern Florida State shot a 648 in the event. 
• Men's Golf: Eastern Florida State is in first place after the first two rounds at the Dan York Memorial Tournament in Cullman, Ala.
